CHASE

I throw on my tight-fitting leather jacket and open my trailer door. Flicking my keys out of my pocket, I make my way across the yard towards my parked motorcycle. I always feel a pang of pride when I see her. She’s a beautiful machine, sleek and fast. Women love to ride on the back of her, their arms eagerly wrapped around my waist as we shoot down the highway. My motorcycle is better at getting me pussy than an actual human wingman.

The evening air is crisp as I jump onto the back of my bike. I feel the leather of the seat against my crotch as I swing my leg over it. I’m so used to riding her now that the motorcycle is like an extension of my body. I first learned to ride one when I was barely sixteen, soon after I left home to make my own way in the world. An older stripper taught me how to ride. He also taught me how to dance.

Ever since that day, my motorcycle has represented my freedom to me. My ability to do anything and go wherever I want.

I’m about to turn on the ignition when I’m furiously tapped on the shoulder from behind.

I shift around on my bike.

Oh great.

It’s Brandi, and she doesn’t look happy.

Here we go.

“Where’s my money?” she demands aggressively, thrusting her hand in my face.

I smile, ignoring her pent-up energy. “Brandi. I was just coming to see you.”

“Bullshit,” she replies, spit oozing from her mouth. “Where’s the rent?”

“That was what I was going to see you about,” I say, reaching into my jacket’s inside pocket. The trailer park manager’s eyes widen. She probably thinks I’m about to pull out a gun or something. I’m not that crude.

She takes a step back as I pull out my hand. I’m holding a wad of bills. The money Erin had given me last week at the dance studio. I offer it to her.

“There you go.”

“What is this?”

“It’s called currency, Brandi. You can buy goods and services with it.”

She ignores my joke.

“How much is this?”

“That should cover most of my back payments. I’ll have the rest for you in a couple of weeks.”

She flicks through the bills, dollar signs practically flashing in her eyes. I’m glad she’s pleased.

“Where did you get this from?” she asks.

I give her a look.

“Do you even care, Brandi? Don’t ask a man like me a question like that.”

She harumphs and twirls away, back down the road to her trailer park office.

Well, I’m glad she’s happy. Erin’s money has probably saved me from getting jumped on by Brandi’s gangster cousins. It’s brought me a couple of weeks, and then I’ll have the rest of the dance money and then I’ll be all good.

I shake my head as I watch Brandi disappear.

These lessons better pay off.

I start my motorcycle and zoom on out of there.
